We are so excited to share the news that Lake Aspen has a new resident – an adult male Trumpeter Swan! We released the swan this afternoon while Grace, the resident female swan, looked on. The swans greeted each other for the first time with a few head bobs, wing displays, and a quick dominance display by the new male, all seen in this video.
The adult male swan was transferred from W.K. Kellogg Biological Station Bird Sanctuary in Michigan where he was recovering from a wing injury. Although he is unable to fly, we are hopeful that he will thrive on the lake and form a bond with Grace, together raising cygnets for many years to come.
We look forward to sharing more photos and videos in the coming days of the male swan’s journey from Michigan to Oregon and as the pair spend time together and establish their bond.
